The districts surrounding High Country were home to the legendary cattlemen, immortalised by poet AB 'Banjo' Paterson in 'The Man from Snowy River'. You'll still find their historic huts on the Bogong High Plains and Mount Buller. The rustic huts were built by the cattlemen to use as shelter when driving their cattle up to the plains in summer. Today we are going to relive this experience, both the hard way and the easy way… 4WD, horseback and helicopter!!!!
We depart from the Resort early morning travelling by vehicle to half way up Mt Stirling (Telephone Box Junction). From here we ride out through the majestic Alpine Ash bush into the marked contrast of the twisted, multi-coloured Snow Gums, up over the summit of Mt Stirling and on to Craig's Hut where we enjoy the magnificent views over lunch.
The thump of Helicopters are heard in the distance, as we take the easy way out of this rugged terrain. This spectacular flight over the high country really highlights the battles that these extraordinary cattleman had to contend with in this rugged land. Highlights of the flight include, Mt Buller, Timbertop Saddle, Razorback Hut and the Delalite River, before landing back at the comfort of the resort.
